    There are 56 car parking spaces available at Chesters Roman Fort, including 2 parent and child spaces, 5 accessible spaces and 3 coach spaces.

    Parking charges apply to non-members. Parking free for members.

    Enjoy hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, soup of the day and delicious cakes in our tearoom.

  • Picnic Area

    Picnic benches are available close to the tearoom and there are other benches dotted around the fort.

  • Shop

    The shop sells a wide range of English Heritage souvenirs and gifts, including toys, wines and jams.
  • Toilets

    Toilets for men and women are available, along with accessible toilets. There are baby changing facilities in both toilets.

  • Dogs

    Dogs are more than welcome at Chesters Roman Fort, we only ask that they are kept on a lead and not taken into the museum. Our visitors usually spend one hour walking around the site so that means plenty of time for our four legged friends!

  • Museum

    The museum at Chesters Roman Fort was built in the 1890s, and still retains much of its original style. Totally unique along Hadrian's Wall, its collections are made up of around 2000 Roman finds, including a world class assortment of Roman Altar Stones. There is a disabled access to the museum (including a ramp).

    There is plenty of room to run and play in our large open areas. Kites are welcome, although ball games are not permitted.

    Chesters Fort takeover trail sheets are available in admissions and designed to help young children explore the fort. Other activities run during half-terms; please check the event pages for further information.

    English Heritage welcomes amateur photographers to our sites and we hope you will share your pictures of your visit with us on social media.

    If you are looking to use one of our sites for commercial, corporate or professional photography or as a filming location, please contact our filming team as soon as possible to check availability and acquire the relevant permissions and paperwork.

    Due to the delicate nature of our sites, English Heritage does not permit drone flying from or over sites in our care, except by contractors or partners undertaking flights for a specific purpose, who satisfy stringent CAA criteria, have the correct insurances and permissions, and are operating under controlled conditions.
