Canon's Bridge Closure

Mon 4 Nov - Fri 13 Dec 2019

During November and December, there will be no vehicle access inside the castle walls where the main car park is due to conservation work at Canon’s Gate. Visitors will be directed to our secondary car park at Broadlees, off Upper Road. Please follow AA signage as you approach the castle.

Access to the castle will be available directly from Broadlees car park via 80 steps up to the historic Fitzwilliam’s Gate. This temporary entrance offers dramatic views of the castle’s northerly curtain walls which are not usually visible to visitors. Alternatively, visitors can take a short walk to the main pedestrian entrance. A transfer vehicle will be available for those with mobility needs.

Whilst we will accommodate as many cars as possible during this time, please note that on busy days parking may be limited. There are several local car parks within walking distance to the castle or you may wish to consider using public transport for your journey.
