Join Julian Humphrys of the Battlefields Trust on a hike designed to take a closer look at one of the most important and dramatic battles in English history.
One of the most dramatic battles of the English Civil War, Roundway Down saw a Parliamentarian army under Sir William Waller completely destroyed by the Royalists. Some of the retreating Roundheads fell to their deaths off the steep slopes of Roundway Hill.
The hike, across some attractive downland, also includes a Roman road, an Iron Age hillfort and a major Saxon earthwork. The battlefield walk covers a distance of around 8 miles (13km) and takes approximately 5-6 hours.
This event has been graded as challenging access as there will be plenty of walking with limited resting points and no seating.
