Live and breathe the story of England at royal castles, historic gardens, forts and defences, world-famous prehistoric sites and many others.
There’s parking for around 100 cars opposite the castle entrance. Parking is free to English Heritage members displaying a valid car sticker. Non-members must pay.
The kiosk serves a delicious range of hot and cold drinks, pasties, sausage rolls and sandwiches, as well as delicious pastries, cream teas, ice creams and cakes. We cater for a range of dietary requirements – and even stock tasty treats for your canine companions. There’s no indoor seating, but there are plenty of picnic tables outside.
The kiosk is open to the public, and you don't need to pay admission to the castle to visit.
Dogs on lead allowed. Assistance dogs welcome.
Male and female toilets with baby-changing facilities.
There are beautiful woodlands to explore around the castle, with wildlife trails for the children to follow, and even the chance to find the lost treasure of Richard II.
Steep cliffs feature on this site. There are large areas of uneven surfaces and rabbit holes.
