130 years after first setting up the iconic Norwegian coastal route, Hurtigruten continues to offer adventurous travellers the chance to experience the original voyage that it pioneered in 1893. Live the legend of Norway

Reimagined from a route Hurtigruten first started sailing in 1968, The Svalbard Line ventures along the scenic Norwegian coast from May to September, heading to the last town before the North Pole – Longyearbyen.

As you journey to Longyearbyen at 78°N and back, The Svalbard Line visits 16 destinations, carefully curated from Hurtigruten’s 130 years of sailing the Norwegian coast. Explore special spots such as the alpine village of Åndalsnes and Træna, one of Norway’s oldest fishing communities. See the bird cliffs of Bjørnøya island in the middle of the Barents Sea and venture into polar-bear territory at former coal-mining town Ny-Ålesund.

An average of six hours in port gives you ample time to really explore each place. You can then enhance your experience with a choice of over 30 summer excursions, led by Hurtigruten’s Coastal Experience Team. They’re on hand to guide you in all voyage activities and excursions, while sharing charming stories and intriguing insights into Norwegian culture, history, nature and geography.

A very special part of The Svalbard Line is your chance to sail deep into the Arctic Circle in summer, when the sun stays in the sky all day and night from late April to late August. This bathes everything in magical light, and gives you 24 hours of daylight to experience this incredible place.

Watching the sun hover across the horizon, refusing to set through the night, is a phenomenon you’ll never forget.

MS Trollfjord – your onboard home

MS Trollfjord is the flagship of The Svalbard Line and is a stylish haven at sea. It’s finished with a Scandi-chic décor and natural furnishings, resulting in an informal, nostalgic atmosphere, conjuring a timelessness where life slows right down. Guests can relax in the lounge with a cocktail or soak up the beautiful views in the panoramic sauna.

Food is an important part of the onboard experience. The kitchens on board MS Trollfjord source the finest homegrown produce from ports along the route, and Hurtigruten is proud to support many local farms. Best of all, the journey from fjord or field to fork is short but deliciously sweet. You’ll sail pass the very fjords where the fish came from, the mountains that grew the herbs and the slopes that reared the lamb.

MS Trollfjord’s strikingly reimagined three restaurants and bar offer an exciting flavour of Norway’s past, present and future. Each one embraces traditional preservation methods that have been tried and trusted by Norwegians through a thousand Arctic winters, such as drying, fermenting and salting. On board, you can eat dry-aged beef served by a chef with a story about the meat’s provenance, drink beer made from water sourced in Trollfjord and learn all about the distinctly Nordic spirit aquavit.
