Marking 400 years since the death of Thomas Howard - the man responsible for building Audley End in the early seventeenth century - From Monastery to Mansion is a new display for 2026. It brings together, for the first time, remarkable portraits from three generations of the family who shaped the story of this remarkable site.
Featuring portraits of Thomas Audley, Lord Chancellor to Henry VIII, his daughter Margaret Audley, and Thomas Howard and his wife Katherine, discover the faces behind Audley End and how a former monastery became one of England's greatest Jacobean houses at the heart of a powerful dynasty.
This display is included with your admission to Audley End. Members go free.
